Mithridatis Regio
MITHRIDATIS REGIO
MITHRIDA´TIS RE´GIO (ἡ Μιθριδάτου χωρα, Ptol. 5.9.19), a district of Asiatic Sarmatia, E. of the Hippici Montes. It derived its name from Mithridates, king of the Bosporus, whom Vaillant (Achaemenidarum Imper. vol. 2. p. 246) calls eighth of that name, and who fled to this country for refuge in the reign of the emperor Claudius. (Plin. Nat. 6.5; Tac. Ann. 12.15; Dio Cass.60.8.)
[E.B.J]Mithridātis Regio
(Μιθριδάτου χώρα). A district of Sarmatia Asiatica, on the western side of the river Rha (now Volga), so called because it was the place of refuge of the last Mithridates in the reign of Claudius.
